Q:  When I export to Rich Text Format (MS Word), the RTF file is much longer than my original document.

When exporting to an editable file, such as RTF, the page count will never be exactly the same. However, the "Single Space" line spacing in Microsoft Word is bigger than the industry standard 6 lines per inch, which will cause it to be much longer than necessary.

  1. Open the Rich Text Format file in Microsoft Word.
  2. Select the entire text (Edit > Select All or Ctrl+A on the keyboard).
  3. Click Format > Paragraph.
  4.  Set the "Line Spacing" to "Exactly.
  5. If it doesn't do it automatically, set the "At" setting to "12pt."
  6. Click OK.

The page count should now be much closer to the original.  It will not be exactly the same, because of the way Word paginates, but it should be within a few pages of the original.
